IVF, IUI or ICSI — which fertility treatment is right for you?

Scribbled Underline 2

Most couples don't know the difference. By the end of this story, you will.

IUI, IVF, and ICSI are three different treatments. Each works differently, costs differently, and is suited for different situations. Here's the simple breakdown.

Your doctor said "fertility treatment" — but which one?

Washed sperm is placed directly into the uterus during ovulation. No surgery. Done in minutes. Best for mild male infertility or unexplained infertility.

IUI — the simplest fertility treatment

Eggs are retrieved, fertilised with sperm in a lab, and the best embryo is transferred to the uterus. Best for blocked tubes, low ovarian reserve, or failed IUI cycles.

IVF — fertilisation happens outside the body

A single healthy sperm is injected directly into an egg. It's IVF — but used when sperm quality is very low, or when previous IVF didn't fertilise. Same process, higher precision.

ICSI — IVF with a precision upgrade

Start with IUI if: mild infertility, unexplained causes, first-time treatment. Go to IVF if: blocked tubes, failed IUI, age above 35, low egg count. Choose ICSI if: low sperm count, poor motility, or previous failed fertilisation in IVF.

How doctors decide which treatment to recommend

There is no one-size-fits-all in fertility. IUI, IVF, ICSI — the right choice depends on your unique test reports, age, and history. A proper diagnosis always comes first.
